GENIE'S LANTERN

Genie's lantern constructed for first year industrial design class at OCADU. It is built with a solid pine pedestal ensconcing a midnight-blue vase with a red velvet cushion.  The vase can be filled with a few drops of aromatic oil, which as the bulb heats the lantern, spread a pleasant fragrance throughout the room.

PLASTER CIRCLES

These circles were also created for a class at OCADU as tealight candleholders. They are plaster moulds of a circle with concentric bevelled edges which catch the glow of the flame on their ridges. They can be customized to any colour you can think of.

WEDGE

One day a large sheet of white plastic turned up in my garage. We took it out, started skateboarding on it, throwing down some heavy powerslides. Then we decided to break out the paints, we slid and skid through the pigment and spread crazy speed lines all over the plastic. Then the rain came and spread it out even more, creating a chaotic effect on top of the fast moving streaks. Over time the sheet got cracked and broken so I turned some of the fragments into this series of lamps. We're still cleaning the paint out of our wheels.

CAR CRASH FRAGMENTS

Collision is a inescapable fact of city life, it's impossible to have so many people running around without them bumping into each other every once in a while. This lamp was created using fragments of a headlight that was smashed on Queen street west. The structure of the headlight provides excellent augmentation of the light while the jagged edges capture the violence of the moment.

GOLDEN GREENERY

This lamp was created from dead leaves in a broken glass jar. The greenery catches the light and seems to be exploding out from its vessel.

COYOTE SNOUT

This is a backlit plaster mask created from a cast of my own face. I added external features and paint to make it into a likeness of the star of my comic, Coyote the Killer.

BABY'S BREATH

This is a lamp constructed with solid pine joinery, translucent white plastic panels, metal feet and baby's breath as ornament. Baby's breath is traditionally a flower used to accompany roses and in this setting catches the light and counters the geometry of the base with organic shapes.
